ABOUT GATO

LEARN A BIT ABOUT THE CREATOR OF THE MONTUMBO

Widely recognized as the creator of the Montumbo, the music of Gato Blanco is a rich blend of Cuban, French, Caribbean and Portuguese influences. His music is often accompanied by a Spanish guitar and punctuated by melodic horns and a baritone saxophone.

Many consider the Montumbo to be rooted in the Brazillian Bossa Nova. However, a study of Gato's earlier work reveals a more provincial French-Afro-Cuban influence. His latest work (Retorno da Musica) is a unique combination of musical elements, which includes moments of electric guitar and signature operatic vocals blended together in a unique musical experience.
